Matthew 27:45(NIV)
45 From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. 46 About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli,[a] lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).[b
The English dictionary by Collins defines abandonment as the act of leaving something/ someone permanently or for a long time, especially when you should not do so. It is often linked to feelings of loneliness, desertion, and solitude.
Jesus Christ, in spite of the fact that He is the the son of the living God was no stranger to abandonment. Isaiah 53:3 identifies him as a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief.
Why am I abandoned?
This is a common question we all ask in difficult times, when everything seems to be going wrong despite all that you have done. You could have separated yourself in prayer and fasting, dedicated your finances to serve the Lord, been faithful in giving of tithes and offering yet it keeps getting worse.
God knows everything that you are going through. He knows your pain and hears your cry. It is during this season that He tests your character, patience, resilience, and loyalty to Him
Job 23:10 (NKJV) But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
Just like gold that goes through the furnace, abandonment is a vital season for your refinement as a representative of the kingdom of God.
Abandonment also comes about as a result of sin, conflict as well as being too busy for God.
Your survival guide
Job 23:12
1. Trust in the Word of God and not your emotions. Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding.
2. Patiently wait on the Lord. Circumstances can’t change God’s promises upon your life but your choices during these circumstances will.
3. Even if you don’t feel like it, always remember that God is able to take you through the storm. He knows how you feel. Pour out your heart to Him.
4. Focus on who God is and refuse to be distracted. Deuteronomy 7:9 Do not focus on what is going wrong but simply trust Him (Hebrews 13:5).
5. Be satisfied with what you have.
6. Always remember that God is still in full control and He has a good plan for your life. (Isaiah 44: 6)
7. Always remember what God did for you at the cross if you feel nothing good has been done for you. Worship him for what he has so far done for you. The highest level of worship is when you are going through hardships.
8. Do not allow the devil lie to you that you are a sinner.
We don’t worship because of what He has given us but rather because of who He is in our lives and the price that was paid for our redemption.
Closing remarks
The God who has brought you this far will surely come to your rescue once you call on Him. God still knows you. You are NOT alone.
